Cardboard Boat Race Rules

Boats may be built anytime and anywhere.

Boats must be presented at the club between
12:00 and 14:00 on race day for registration and judging.

Human powered only with no restriction on
numbers – in fact the more the merrier.

All crew members must wear life Jackets.

Individual boats may be entered in any or
all races with the same or different crew.

Each boat should have a name.
-
Themes & fancy dress are encouraged.
-
Lots of prizes will be awarded to winners,
losers, worst design, best theme, youngest competitor etc.

Each competing member may invite a non–member to participate.
-
Entry fee is $5 per boat. The boat may
compete in any or all races for this fee.
Construction:
Hull Material:
-
Cardboard only. Hint: Find lots of large
sheets or boxes.

No Foam allowed
-
No plastic wrap allowed
-
Hulls may be painted and waxed.
-
All paint, glue, cement, sealers etc.
should be water based.

Fasteners can consist of Glue, nails,
staples, screws, bolts and tape. Hint: You will need plenty of duct
tape.

No epoxy or fiberglass of any kind.
-
Wood may be used to a maximum of 1 inch
thick, 3 board
(square) feet per crew.
Propulsion:
-
May consist of oars, paddles, paddle
wheels, and flippers. Any material can be used. Wood paddle wheels will
not be included in determining the maximum wood allowance, but the
supporting structure will be used.

No metal oarlocks allowed. Wooden oarlocks
will be counted as part of the wood allowance.

No chains V-belts, link belts or sprockets
allowed.
-
Rope and string may be used but no wire or
cables.
