NERYC 2003 First Race of the Season

Our first race of the season was the kick-off to our Opening Day activities. With many of our boats not yet ready for the season, we had a somewhat diminished fleet but never-the-less, the gathering of skippers and crew for the pre-race meeting saw many of the usual faces. All were full of enthusiasm and hardly able to contain their excitement at the prospect of getting out on the race course again.

The breeze was light and from the N/ NE and we had a slightly delayed start while we waited for the committee boat to set up. Again the fluky conditions of the Upper Bay prevailed. With most of the fleet becalmed half way through the race and with the Opening Ceremony looming, the race was shortened and the results speak for themselves. Well done to those who managed to finish and congratulations to Gill and his crew who took line and handicap honors in Fleet A and Bill Cohee and his crew who did the same in Fleet B. Let’s look forward and hope for good winds in race 2.
