Greetings All.
The 2003 NERYC
Invitational Sail Race took place on Saturday, July 26, in perfect sailing
weather. Clear skies, warm temperatures, and steady moderate winds were
enjoyed by a record number of racers for a NERYC race. The 10.61 mile
course was completed by three separate fleets: PHRF spinnaker, PHRF
non-spinnaker, and cruising class. Exemplary sailing skills were exhibited
by many skippers in what were some of the most hair-raising starts
ever observed by this race committee. Our thanks to Bob Appleton for
providing his 50’ ketch, Journey, as committee boat for the event.
After the race, NERYC
members and visiting skippers were treated to a NERYC specialty, a great
party with good food, music, and great camaraderie.
We were also honored
with the presence of Jim Nolan, a long standing Chesapeake Bay Yacht
Racing Association official, who observed the race and presented our club
with a CBYRA burgee.
Congratulations to all!
The next NERYC sail race
event will be the start of the Fall series, on August 9. Breakfast at 0900, skippers meeting at 1000.
See you there!
Charles
